Italian stone stands out in average export unit value

Focus Piedra reports an average export unit value of $1,157.40 per tonne for Italian stone, the highest in the comparison cited. The figure is attributed to Confindustria Marmomacchine analysis of UN Comtrade. It is an aggregate customs value, rather than a block or slab price list.

Editorial perspective: a per-tonne comparison can conceal significant differences between rough, semi-finished and finished products. Applying trade statistics to business decisions requires a defined period, product classification and product mix. A higher average does not automatically establish a higher margin or indicate an asking price for an individual stone. A practical quotation still depends on selection, yield, finish, delivery terms and continuity of supply, assessed for the actual order rather than the national average.
