Atashkooh: finding travertine below the surface
A research reading that separates deposit exploration from the commercial assessment of a block.
Aim and method
At Atashkooh near Nimvar, researchers searched for buried travertine using electrical resistivity and induced polarization: 850 measurements along three profiles, interpreted through subsurface models.
Results
A target was identified at 15–20 metres. Two exploratory boreholes checked the models; the authors found the method useful for exploration.
Practical reading: from deposit to block
For a stone selector, the next question is different: what can the exposed quarry face actually supply? Before making an offer, collect current photographs, block dimensions, fracture information and representative samples. A subsurface survey is not a sales specification. This is an editorial consideration: it keeps the scientific result, actual availability and the characteristics of an individual consignment separate.
